- ➤ Greg Lair GMC donated a check for $36,200 to Fill with Hope this afternoon to help feed hungry children in Canyon ISD, and the dealership will contribute $200 for each vehicle sold from Nov. 15 to Jan. 1. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ The 42nd annual Tri-State Open Chili Championship will take place tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at the Rex Baxter Building at the Tri-State Fairgrounds, featuring live and silent auctions and music by Beyond Country with free admission and $5 tasting cups to benefit Make-A-Wish. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ Amarillo Symphony will celebrate the Globe-News Center's 20th anniversary with two special concerts on Jan. 16 and 17. The performances will start at 7:30 p.m. with a world-premiere fanfare and classical works featured at the center. Amarillo Globe-News

- ➤ Don Harrington Discovery Center is hosting Weather Wonders camp on Martin Luther King Jr. Day for kids ages four to 11. The camp offers half-day sessions (morning 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or afternoon 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.) and full-day options for children five and older with limited spots. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Amarillo College's Panhandle Regional Law Enforcement Academy is accepting applications for its 133rd Basic Peace Officer Academy training set for April to August at the First Responders Academy at 3891 Plains Boulevard – interested candidates must complete the process by Feb. 19. - ➤ The Amarillo Public Library East Branch is starting Spanish as a Second Language classes this Saturday — Intermediate Level classes at 10 a.m. every other Saturday and Level 1 classes on alternate Fridays beginning Jan. 16 — at 2232 E. 27th. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ Amarillo’s Lived Experience Advocacy Committee will host a meeting on Jan. 20 from 3 to 4 p.m. at City Hall to discuss how local coordination can reduce the criminalization of homeless individuals — offering community members a chance to give input and build understanding. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Amarillo Police advise property owners to check vacant properties, secure all entry points, and install motion-activated lighting & cameras as reports of squatters increase, and they offer free security assessments through the APD Public Information Office. KGNC
- ➤ Airport crews completed a five-year project that upgraded parking areas and landscaping at Rick Husband International Airport; the work began in October 2024 and finished at the end of December. NewsChannel 10
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle is boosting mental health support for first responders with expanded peer-to-peer evaluations and a conference on Feb. 7 (featuring Travis Howze). It will also assist local fire departments with needed equipment. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Amarillo’s flu cases are rising as Public Health reports 616 flu-positive cases for week one—up from 269 last season. Flu season is expected to peak in February and vaccines are available at local health centers. Amarillo Tribune
- ➤ Amarillo faces a severe blood shortage as current O-type supplies are less than half of last year's count. Coffee Memorial Blood Center imported over 400 units from the East Coast (emergency supply) and urges local donors to help now. NewsTalk 940 AM
