- ➤ Storybridge in Amarillo is hosting its Dream & Donate Book Drive to collect 18,000 children's books at 4468 Canyon Dr on Friday, Jan. 16 and Monday, Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Books donated will benefit local elementary schools, Kinderbridge, and Little Free Libraries (supporting community literacy programs). - ➤ GameStop is closing stores nationwide before Jan. 31, but no signs of a shutdown are visible at its three Amarillo locations as of Tuesday, Jan. 13. The company is shifting strategies toward collectibles & merchandise to adapt to online gaming trends. NewsTalk 940 AM
- ➤ Rumors of a Bass Pro Shops store in Amarillo have persisted for years, though the company has paused its plans after a mid-2025 deal for the former Camping World site on I-40 fell through + shifted focus to new developments in Abilene and elsewhere. 96.9 KISS FM

- ➤ The Don Harrington Discovery Center is accepting registration for its Weather Wonders Day Camp on Monday, Jan. 19 at its facility where children aged 4 to 11 can choose half-day or full-day sessions with different prices for members and nonmembers. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Amarillo College’s Panhandle Regional Law Enforcement Academy is accepting applications for its 133rd Basic Peace Officer Academy, which begins in April; candidates must complete all requirements by Feb. 19 to train over 800 hours at the First Responders Academy. Amarillo Globe-News

- ➤ Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller unveiled a plan to protect prime farmland by creating Agriculture Freedom Zones—areas that direct data centers to less suitable land—to secure food production. He warned that unchecked development could threaten the state and nation’s food and water supply. Amarillo Globe-News
- ➤ TxDOT officials said westbound I-40 will close this week at Pullman Road for concrete repair work; drivers must detour via the exit ramp (access will resume at the entrance ramp). NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Potter County commissioners approved a tax abatement pilot for the Yellow Rose Solar project and designated its site as reinvestment zone number 2, setting a payment of $1,875 per megawatt for 10 years. Construction may begin in December once a private buyer acquires the project, with residents earning $2,500 annually. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Lefors crews replaced an old underground water pipe on Monday, which led to a school closure and a boil water advisory in Lefors ISD. Water resumed (except for West First Street) and lab tests are planned today before the advisory is lifted, allowing students to return. ABC 7 Amarillo
