  • On Monday, Feb. 2, all Texas Roadhouse and Bubba’s locations will donate 100% of profits to the American Tinnitus Association to honor founder Kent Taylor & support research and education for those with tinnitus in our area.  NewsChannel 10
  • On Jan. 1, Texas State Parks broke records during First Day Hikes as 861 hikers joined at Palo Duro Canyon + Dinosaur Valley State Park led with 931 participants. Across 86 sites and 181 events, new records were set for participation and miles hiked.  NewsChannel 10
  • Sharing Hope Ministry will celebrate 15 years at Patsy's Place Transitional Home tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 1, from 3 to 5 p.m. at 2300 SW 7th Ave by offering home tours and program details for women rebuilding their lives (205 have benefited since its launch).  NewsChannel 10

  • Xcel Energy has opened a new 45,000 sqft service center in Bushland that houses about 70 employees and consolidates operations to improve outage response times. The facility supports west Amarillo’s growing energy demand & positions crews closer to expanding service areas.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • Amarillo Parks and Recreation announced a Princess Ball on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Civic Center’s Regency Room, Entrance 4 where children and families will enjoy dancing, crafts & photos with real princesses; tickets cost $25 for an adult/child duo and $5 for each additional child.  96.9 KISS FM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Amarillo drivers pay $2.35 per gallon while the Texas average is $2.50, but supply issues from a Jan. 23-26 Arctic storm will soon drive fuel costs up.  96.9 KISS FM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tascosa High School's iconic horse statue has been repaired and repainted by the Yearbook staff + Blank Spaces after damage from patio paving. It will return to the front entrance soon when the weather allows.  96.9 KISS FM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Volunteers gathered on Jan. 30 at the Simms Municipal Building to conduct the PIT count tracking the homeless in Amarillo. The effort supports planning for federal funds and resource spending, with teams visiting hot spots and shelters (providing goody bags and pet food to assist participants).  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Amarillo honored Floyd Hartman at the civic center on Jan. 30 when he retired after nearly 30 years in municipal service. City officials and colleagues celebrated his work in water planning — a legacy that will continue to guide future projects.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Crews are building fire station 14 at 810 Quail Creek Drive near the medical district – the facility will include training spaces for firefighters and the public. Officials say the project will finish by year-end or early next year to boost emergency response times.  NewsChannel 10
  • The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department awarded grants to upgrade parks in four Panhandle towns. Childress, Spearman, and Turkey each received $150,000 for new park amenities while Wellington got $750,000 for renovations at Ellison Park.  NewsChannel 10
  • Eighteen recruits graduated from the 105th Amarillo Police Academy on Jan. 30 at the Civic Center's Grand Plaza, marking the first class under new Chief Thomas Hover; the officers will now begin field training assignments.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • The Amarillo Sod Poodles will open the 2026 season on Friday, April 3 at Hodgetown with specialty nights and giveaways including Harry Potter hat night & Toy Story promotions. The team will also host local college and high school games plus the Savannah Banana show in April.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Arena football will return to Amarillo on March 13 at the Civic Center for the Warbirds’ debut game. The team, relocated from Odessa under local owner Leif Kertis, will host a Feb. 16 camp to finalize its roster and engage the community through school events and a Plains Dairy partnership.  Amarillo Tribune
