COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kids will build toy boats and race them by blowing or splashing at Warford Activity Center on April 11 from 3-5 p.m. Registration is open until April 1 (cost is $10/person) (life jackets provided on-site).  96.9 KISS FM

  • North Heights Linen Service in North Amarillo has been sold to Ecotex Healthcare Linen Service & will retain its workforce while keeping hospital partnerships, potentially opening new job opportunities. The change builds on the business’s role in revitalizing the area since 2021.  96.9 KISS FM
  • La Chula Vida Coffee Co. opened on Feb. 16 at 3703 Wolflin Ave, offering Amarillo residents a new spot for coffee. The shop serves morning hours Monday-Saturday and after hours on Monday and Tuesday with a $5 deal for students.  96.9 KISS FM

CRIME NEWS

  • Amarillo’s Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center provides forensic interviews and counseling for children disclosing abuse while coordinating with local law enforcement to protect victims and lessen long-term impact.  Amarillo Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Center City in downtown Amarillo is offering graduation banners during this season, and families can order one to honor their graduate. Pick up is available at the Center City offices (1000 S. Polk St).  NewsChannel 10

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two wildfires are still burning in the Texas Panhandle as the Neon Beige Fire in Oldham County burns 1,500 acres at 65% containment and the Corner Pocket Fire in Donley County burns 234 acres at 70% containment. TxDOT reopened US 385 Monday after closing it near Vega (evacuations near Greenbelt Lake were lifted Sunday).  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Wildfires and dust storms forced evacuations in parts of the Texas Panhandle as officials warned residents to follow local alerts during hazardous conditions.  Amarillo Globe-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews fought a 1,500-acre Neon Beige Fire overnight near U.S. 385, which reopened Monday morning after partial control was achieved south of Tascosa near Boys Ranch. TxDOT said the highway — closed from Vega city limits to RM 1061 intersection — was cleared by 9:15 a.m.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Texas Department of Transportation will close the left and center lanes of westbound I-40 at Paramount Boulevard this Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon for patching, with additional closures planned on north Loop 335 at US 87, on I-40 frontage roads, and at the I-27/I-40 interchange for bridge maintenance.  NewsChannel 10
  • Amarillo Parks and Rec board is reviewing options to remove prairie dogs from John Stiff Memorial Park amid public safety and cost concerns. A decision will come next month once cost estimates (under $50K or over) are finalized, with options including relocation or eradication, said board member Tim Reid.  ABC 7 Amarillo
