- ➤ Amarillo police responded at 5:15 p.m. Monday to a call about 33-year-old Zane Calum Prescott in mental distress—after a standoff and vehicle pursuit that extended beyond the city, he was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot. ABC 7 Amarillo
- ➤ Ronald Ernest Miles, 67 — re-arrested by SWAT on a bond forfeiture warrant after being released from jail — now faces charges of abuse of a corpse in connection to the death of 65-year-old Elizabeth Ann Duckworth, who was found wrapped in plastic in an alley near Center and Alabama on March 11. - ➤ Amarillo police said that after officers responded Monday night to a report of a man in possible mental distress, 33-year-old Zane Calum Prescott, found armed in violation of a protective order, was located dead inside his vehicle from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a lengthy SWAT standoff and police pursuit near Bushland—an investigation is ongoing. - ➤ A Texas Senate panel heard mixed reactions Monday on Senate Bill 8 that would force sheriffs in counties with more than 100,000 people to work with ICE under the expanded 287(g) program. Some law enforcement officers and advocacy groups said the mandate might stretch budgets and staffing — calling for more state funding — while state leaders like Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Gov. - ➤ Region 16 opened its new Edge Data Center in Amarillo on Tuesday with partners Duos Edge AI and Fiberlight joining the event and the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce leading a ribbon cutting.
