- ➤ At 12:57 a.m. on March 23, the Amarillo Fire Department responded to a crash at Batteries Plus Bulbs near Interstate 40 and Paramount when a semi truck hit the store, and firefighters used rescue tools to free the driver who was then taken to a hospital while the store sustained major damage. - ➤ Amarillo police said one person was injured and Darien Maes, 23, was arrested for possessing a firearm in his car after a shooting occurred early Sunday morning at Tejano Wild West at 1200 SE 10th Ave — spent shell casings were found in the nearby parking lot and street and the victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition. - ➤ Amarillo’s Buc-ee’s unveiled a vibrant new mural by Blank Spaces last week, marking the non-profit’s 96th project and showcasing local art at one of the city's busiest stops. The mural, installed by a team of interns and college students after winning a competitive bid, has attracted much social media attention—its success paves the way for upcoming projects like the Ignite Conference at Amarillo College. - ➤ Residents in Amarillo are encouraged to prepare for tornado season beginning in May by cleaning storm shelters and making family plans for safe cover. - ➤ A social media post led us to see that a part of mayoral candidate Jason Herrick’s ad was filmed in an adult video gallery parking lot when a pothole and matching background were noted—Herrick’s campaign said the ad was shot on public streets and that any match is just a coincidence. - ➤ Today at 9 a.m. the northbound ramp to I-27 north of FM 2219 will close for hot mix operations and reopen by 5 p.m. daily until Thursday, March 27; crews will also install high mast lighting on I-40 frontage roads from Ross Street to Whitaker Road, seal cracks on SL 335, spray herbicide on I-40 and I-27, and perform signage work on SH 217 and US 87 in Canyon.
