COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Amarillo Angels hosts its fifth annual Mom Prom on April 25 to raise funds for programs serving children, youth & families in foster care. Tickets sell until April 24 and tables reserve until April 10; VIP seating starts at 6 p.m. and general admission at 8 p.m.  NewsChannel 10
  • The Pleasant Valley/River Road Revitalization Group is waiting for its RNA application from the city as it plans events to enhance the neighborhood. A mural initiative meeting is scheduled for today at 6:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Elementary School’s cafeteria, with a clean up day in April and a pancake breakfast in August.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • Amarillo's weekend lineup offers a public lecture by Joy Harjo at Amarillo College on Thursday, a youth musical 'Prince of Egypt' on Friday and Saturday at ALT Academy, and an opera production 'Don Giovanni' starting today at WT's campus — a mural run begins Saturday morning downtown showing local art.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Amarillo honors Medal of Honor recipient Thomas E. Creek, who bravely fought in Vietnam and is remembered at local memorials + the VA Medical Center that now bears his name, where his legacy is preserved through exhibits.   ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Amarillo City Council approved a Route 66 interactive mural at Transformation Park's underpass showcasing 66 local stories with PBS (National Geographic input) and local student artists.   • Residents across Amarillo are enjoying an urban scavenger hunt for over 3,000 quirky Dynamite Museum signs hidden around town, highlighting the city’s unique charm.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Amarillo Museum of Art opens its 20x20 Exhibition and Silent Auction fundraiser tomorrow during regular hours, offering online bids and in-person viewing until April 2.   • The Amarillo College Board of Regents met March 24 to review the Badger Bound program, approve Concert Hall Theater renovations and new STEM equipment + hold an executive session regarding legal issues.  Amarillo Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The city and Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center began relocating prairie dogs from John Stiff Park Sunday as part of a months-long effort that uses paid teams to safely capture, care for, and release the animals at new sites.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Firefighters in Hutchinson County are using burn lines to control two wildfires as temperatures near triple digits (one family lost their inherited home belongings near Petit Road). Heavy equipment is staged for areas that are difficult to reach.  ABC 7 Amarillo

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews are making progress on a new parking lot at the site of the old Potter County Courthouse in downtown Amarillo. Over 90% of the flatwork is complete and crews are finishing sidewalk and gutter work, with completion expected by the end of July.  NewsChannel 10
  • At a Wednesday morning meeting, the Amarillo Convention and Visitors Bureau board approved The Long Trail, a 10-year plan charting a roadmap to boost tourism by expanding events and upgrading the Civic Center; phase one work begins in 2027 with a full plan unveiled in January.  Amarillo Tribune
