  • Amarillo Crime Stoppers has named fugitive Joshua Michael Benavidez, Jr.—a 19 year old Hispanic male with brown eyes, black hair, who is 5 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds—as wanted by the Potter County Sheriff’s Office on charges of Organized Criminal Activity, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Deadly Conduct Discharge Firearm; anyone with information is asked to call 806-374-4400.  KGNC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Amarillo Film Society will screen The Brightness of Light, a documentary about Georgia O’Keeffe, at Sad Monkey Mercantile on April 12 — doors open at 6 p.m. and the film begins at 7 p.m. Funds raised will support the Amarillo International Film Festival in October — art history professor Amy Von Lintel will sign her books at the event.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Amarillo Opera will present Cruzar la Cara de la Luna—a groundbreaking mariachi opera blending opera singing with Grammy-winning Mariachi Los Camperos—on Saturday, April 5 at 5 p.m. at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, and the one-night-only show will be followed by a Fiesta Fundraiser at the Civic Center Grand Plaza featuring a Spanish-inspired dinner, live music, and auctions to support its educational programs.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • Amarillo mayoral candidates Cole Stanley and Jason Herrick filed their campaign finance reports today; Stanley raised $73,000—$50,000 from Alex Fairly—and Herrick raised $270,000 through several smaller donations ahead of the May third election.  NewsChannel 10

  • A new lounge called Blind Pig at 609 S Independence will open on April 19th on Sixth Street and will offer live music, karaoke, trivia and a mechanical bull ride.   • Kids Inc. received a $1 million donation from local philanthropist Sherry Morrison that brings the nonprofit near its $24 million Phase One target for Rockrose Sports Park—construction will begin in summer 2025.
