  • McDonald's Gives Back Day will return on Tuesday, Apr. 7 as local venues donate a portion of proceeds to support the Make A Wish Foundation in the Texas Panhandle — helping customers make every meal count.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Amarillo Zoo will close on April 3 for nearly one month for staff transitions and facility upgrades as it transforms into a non-profit sanctuary (reopening is set for April 27).   • Malcolm's Ice Cream & Food Temptations, a longtime local favorite, is hiring for a busy summer season and seeks two part-time line cooks, two wait staff positions, and an ice cream bar spot.   • Lone Star Ballet announced at 4:45 a.m. today that Roxann Seaton, a 33-year insider who started as a student at age 5, has been named the new artistic director (a full circle moment for her) as the company readies its current season.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • The Old Route 66 Association of Texas launched a matching grant program to aid local businesses on Route 66 as volunteers refurbish the 96-year-old Super 66 Service Station in Alanreed. The grants support beautification efforts for centennial celebrations on Apr. 30 and Nov. 11.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Amarillo Little Theatre will present 'Silent Sky' from April 9 through 19 at the Adventure Space, showcasing astronomer Henrietta Leavitt's fight for recognition in a male-dominated field.   • First + Main Films is collecting Cadillac Ranch photos from local residents for a TV series celebrating the Mother Road's 100th anniversary. Submissions are open now as part of June’s Route 66 Centennial festivities.  96.9 KISS FM

  • Workforce Solutions Panhandle is hosting the Spring Amarillo Job Fair on Tuesday, April 7 at the Amarillo Civic Center North Exhibit Hall, where over 80 employers (including healthcare, manufacturing, law enforcement and education) will meet job seekers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  NewsChannel 10
  • Texas gas prices have risen for the fifth week as drivers face higher fuel bills for Easter travel; Amarillo remains the lowest at $3.27, while other Texas cities have seen modest increases. Experts expect prices to rise further as crude oil stays above $100 per barrel + market uncertainty persists.  96.9 KISS FM

  • Storybridge celebrated five years of giving free books to children in the Panhandle with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Launched in April 2021, the program now serves 10,000 kids regionwide & boosts early reading skills.  NewsChannel 10
  • Amarillo ISD announced a fully virtual and hybrid program called Amarillo ISD Online (a new program) that will serve grades 6 to 12 starting with the 2026 to 2027 school year while virtual options for elementary students are planned for 2027 to 2028. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Destructable, a company in Amarillo, recycles decommissioned wind turbines and recovers metal and fiberglass to keep waste out of landfills. CEO Cody Earle recently acquired Wind Decom to expand nationwide operations and supports veterans through the nonprofit VetsGiving (providing Thanksgiving meals).  NewsChannel 10

  • A secret US Air Force jet called the NT-43A Radar Test Bed was seen at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport on Friday. It helped during the Artemis II launch on Wednesday and is set to begin a new role (it is based at a Nevada test range).  ABC 7 Amarillo
