- ➤ Amarillo Zoo will close on April 3 for nearly one month for staff transitions and facility upgrades as it transforms into a non-profit sanctuary (reopening is set for April 27). - ➤ The Old Route 66 Association of Texas launched a matching grant program to aid local businesses on Route 66 as volunteers refurbish the 96-year-old Super 66 Service Station in Alanreed. The grants support beautification efforts for centennial celebrations on Apr. 30 and Nov. 11. ABC 7 Amarillo
- ➤ Amarillo Little Theatre will present 'Silent Sky' from April 9 through 19 at the Adventure Space, showcasing astronomer Henrietta Leavitt's fight for recognition in a male-dominated field. - ➤ Texas gas prices have risen for the fifth week as drivers face higher fuel bills for Easter travel; Amarillo remains the lowest at $3.27, while other Texas cities have seen modest increases. - ➤ Amarillo ISD announced a fully virtual and hybrid program called Amarillo ISD Online (a new program) that will serve grades 6 to 12 starting with the 2026 to 2027 school year while virtual options for elementary students are planned for 2027 to 2028. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Destructable, a company in Amarillo, recycles decommissioned wind turbines and recovers metal and fiberglass to keep waste out of landfills.
