  • Today, Transformation Park hosts a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. at 1501 SW 5th Ave with residents set to move into the pallet homes in a few weeks; executive director Mark Zimmerman said the project offers food, water, shelter+ safety and will connect guests with job training and support services as they rebuild their lives. This collaborative effort between local government and non-profits aims to provide a secure, 24-hour access facility for those transitioning from homelessness.  Amarillo Tribune
  • The Don Harrington Discovery Center is launching a new book vending machine today — the machine is sponsored by ATMOS Energy and offers free tokens to the first 10 children aged 12 and under while tokens are available for $5 at the front desk. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Amarillo Fire Marshal’s Office ruled the Thursday morning fire on Williams Street accidental after crews arriving at 7 a.m. found heavy flames—one firefighter sustained minor heat burns while one resident escaped safely as losses were estimated at $10,000 in property and $28,000 in contents.  NewsChannel 10

  • Tariffs on imported vehicles and parts kicked in on April 3 and added 25% to prices, causing some customers at Mazda of Amarillo to delay their purchases.   • On April 8th, Amarillo police and sheriff’s deputies seized about $400,000 in meth and cash in a drug bust—surveillance of a suspect at a home led to a traffic stop and the arrest of two individuals.  NewsChannel 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Cole Stanley explained his re-election plans in a Q&A by outlining projects such as a wastewater treatment plant upgrade—with $38 million secured for design—to boost Amarillo's public safety and growth. He also said he will increase police staffing with higher pay, work with Randall County to secure water rights, and use a Municipal Utility District to keep new homes within the city limits.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • An Amarillo DPS trooper, Dani Basye, won the Top Female Trooper award in Texas for the third time at the 13th annual Javier Arana, Jr. Top Trooper Competition held at DPS’ Tactical Training Center in Florence—she will represent Texas DPS at the upcoming National Top Trooper Competition next month.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Osage Street from 34th to 58th Avenue will be closed starting Monday through the end of April for a construction study— a consultant will gather soil and rock data to plan future work while drivers are urged to follow lane changes and take alternate routes.  ABC 7 Amarillo
