COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Palo Duro Canyon, a lost journal, left by Benjamin (the visitor), wedged into a picnic table near the Hackberry restrooms has become a community guest book as visitors write encouraging words while waiting for his return.   • Fritch Volunteer Fire Department honors late Fire Chief Zeb Smith as firefighters cope with his loss and gain ongoing support from the 100 Club+ which aided his family and helped the team move forward.  NewsChannel 10
  • NewsChannel 10 is partnering with The 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle for a telethon running until April 14 to help support local firefighters and law enforcement. Viewers can tune in from April 12 to learn how to donate (phone donations accepted at 806-331-9800).  NewsChannel 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cinergy Box Office Binge returns Saturday, April 18th as local movie lovers can watch unlimited films and enjoy unlimited popcorn (drinks must be purchased separately) for $16 when joining Elite Rewards.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • The Amarillo Botanical Gardens will host Garden Fest on Saturday, Apr. 25 — a spring event offering horticulture workshops, over 25 local vendors, kids crafts and food trucks for $5 admission, with free entry for members and children 5 and under.  NewsTalk 940 AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wildcat Bluff Nature Center is now accepting registrations for Wildcat Wednesdays, which offers guided hikes and hands-on learning from spring equinox to fall equinox. The camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (including early drop-off and late pick-up) and are available in half or full-day sessions.  NewsTalk 940 AM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wildfire continues to burn north of Panhandle + west of HWY 207 and south of Borger as crews respond while residents and travelers are told to avoid the area.  ABC 7 Amarillo

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Potter County Fire and Rescue received funding from the 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle, which replaced an outdated John Deere Gator and provided an injury benefit to a firefighter injured last Thursday (officials said) while promising to share the new equipment with other agencies.  NewsChannel 10
  • The new parking lots at John Stiff Memorial Park are locked unless a group contacts Parks + Recreation ahead of large events. This step will deter vandalism and noise during off hours while planned park upgrades aim to improve safety and accessibility.  Amarillo Globe-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Amarillo College students now offer affordable dental cleanings under licensed supervision for locals without insurance. Residents can get a basic cleaning for $35 and a deep cleaning for $70 (children 9 and under receive services free).  NewsTalk 940 AM
