  • Coast Packing Company is building a $12.3M food production facility at 9400 Centerport Blvd in Amarillo, expected to complete in Sept. 2027; the modern 15,600 sqft facility will create 30 jobs and may expand to 60 using advanced technology & sustainable practices.  NewsTalk 940 AM

  • Texas Tech students and researchers shared their findings at the Amarillo Research Symposium held Friday, April 10 at the vet school. Their work in animal science, pharmacy & human research aimed to boost cross-campus collaboration and spark new projects for future study.  Amarillo Globe-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today is a Weather Alert Day as Amarillo faces strong southwest winds, low humidity + warm temperatures that set critical fire conditions from noon to 8 p.m. Residents must avoid outdoor burning, welding, or other sparks, as any fire may spread rapidly.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Texas A&M Forest Service and Amarillo Fire Department warn that severe drought is increasing roadside spark risks, and motorists are advised to carry fire extinguishers, water or cotton blankets in their vehicles while seeking paved rest stops if mechanical issues occur.  ABC 7 Amarillo

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Potter County extended its burn ban for 90 days as dry, windy conditions persist, and residents must avoid outdoor trash and brush burns to reduce wildfire risk. Violators may face fines up to $500.  NewsChannel 10
  • Bell Helicopter will do 84% of the work on a $157 million upgrade contract for Osprey aircraft at its Amarillo facility for the U.S. Navy + Marine Corps. The upgrades will be completed by the end of 2028.  NewsChannel 10
  • Residents say locked restrooms, closed pools, and uneven parking access limit the use of public parks they pay for, as former councilman Tom Scherlen noted. Mayor Cole Stanley promised to review these issues after Tuesday’s council meeting.  ABC 7 Amarillo
