  • The Loft, a new four-story student ministry facility at First Baptist Church in downtown Amarillo, opened on Sunday, April 6 to give local youth a space to study, play, and learn about faith. The 41 million dollar, 77,000-square-foot project is one of the largest downtown projects in decades and will fully open in May (its skybridge links it to a nearby senior living community).  Amarillo Globe-News

CRIME NEWS

  • After a year-long investigation, Amarillo police arrested four individuals tied to a drive-by shooting on May 2 in the Eastridge neighborhood — the attack saw a bullet narrowly miss an infant — and they now face multiple felony charges as the investigation continues.  NewsChannel 10

  • Ray Wilson, co-owner of High Fidelity Records, said fans camped out at midnight today with a line winding down the block and around the alley to buy special Record Store Day vinyl records including a Charli XCX release, a Billie Eilish record, and a Taylor Swift collaboration with Post Malone — a sign that vinyl is making a strong comeback in Amarillo.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • Pantex held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new downtown campus at Happy State Bank on S. Taylor Street, which will house over 400 employees. The new space is part of a plan to ease on-site space constraints and support the agency’s long-term growth in Amarillo.  NewsChannel 10
  • The Amarillo League of Women Voters began its yearly candidate forum yesterday at the Virgil Patterson Auditorium where mayoral and city council candidates spoke to help voters understand the upcoming elections. HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials confirmed 20 additional measles cases since April 11, raising the outbreak total to 561 across West Texas. Fifty-eight patients were hospitalized and two unvaccinated school-aged children died, with ongoing transmission in counties including Cochran, Dallam, Dawson, Gaines, Garza, Lynn, Lamar, Lubbock, Terry and Yoakum (the Texas Panhandle reported eight cases with seven in Dallam and one in Randall).  NewsChannel 10
