  • Al's Garage and Al's Backyard will open around Memorial Day on Sixth Ave to offer burgers & upscale dining; the venue will feature a backyard with swings, fire pits, food truck options and live music, transforming a former upholstery shop into a new local hangout.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Young scouts will canvass Amarillo neighborhoods Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to noon for their annual Scouting for Food Good Turn event benefiting High Plains Food Bank, so residents may drop off nonperishable items + funds at the Warehouse with details from the Golden Spread Council.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Amarillo restaurants offer Tax Day deals today including free Kona Ice, half dozen donuts for $4.15 at Shipley's and BOGO specials at Fazoli's and Subway.   • Highland Park ISD is developing Buffalo Highlands with new schools, childcare and a career technical center, plus more than 1,000 homes. Infrastructure work begins now off N.E. 24th and Loop 335; school facilities will open in August 2027 (designed to counter declining enrollment and boost local tax revenue).  NewsChannel 10

  • The Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone board approved incentives for a future downtown Hampton Inn that will offer a 10-year tax abatement covering property taxes and a $900,000 streetscape contribution near Hodgetown; developers will pay school district taxes.   • Retiring after 38 years, Amarillo Police Department Assistant Chief Jimmy Johnson will end his service on April 30, as announced on April 15. He rose through every rank including interim chief while earning community trust.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • City officials face growing concern over park conditions as two pools remain closed due to safety checks and several facilities locked amid vandalism; council members are reviewing budgets while city management works on maintenance improvements & fee adjustments.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Canyon Municipal Court is linking defendants with local resources to address underlying issues with repeat violations—offering pop-up vaccination clinics with Amarillo Public Health, SNAP assistance, and monthly legal clinics in Canyon. HEALTH NEWS

  • On March 29, Amarillo police officers saved a woman's life when they performed CPR+used an AED in an apartment and kept her stable until EMS arrived. The woman, who had no prior conditions, suffered a heart attack and is now recovering.  NewsChannel 10

  • Potter County home prices fell in January as the median price dropped to $173,906 from December's $177,159. Sales of single-family homes declined 6.9% while condos & townhomes spiked 126.7%, and recorded sales fell 40.5% compared to January last year.  Amarillo Globe-News
