COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Starbase Kids will open its new space-themed indoor playground for children from birth to 8 on May 4 at Amp'd in Amarillo. The venue is still under construction and is hiring staff to support the interactive play space.  96.9 KISS FM
  • The 2026 West Texas Ranch Rodeo runs April 19-25 at the Amarillo National Center and will feature the Women’s Ranch Bronc Championships plus a world championship blacksmith competition; youth events and 4-H contests are free while adults buy tickets at the gate.  NewsChannel 10
  • Spectrum Support Society of Amarillo will host the Autism Walk 2026 on Saturday, April 25 at Arden Road Park from 9 a.m. until noon. The free event will include bounce houses, food trucks, and a resource fair designed to promote awareness and inclusion for individuals with autism.  NewsChannel 10
  • Bubba’s 33 is hosting a fundraiser tomorrow — 100% of dine-in and to-go proceeds will go to the American Eagle Foundation, which supports eagle conservation. The chain is offering kids a free meal when they return a coloring sheet for children 12 and younger at local locations.  NewsChannel 10

  • Fermi America announced on Apr. 20 its transition to Fermi 2.0 (following its CEO’s departure and CFO’s board appointment) as it restructures its leadership. The company will open a new headquarters in Dallas to complement its Amarillo office.  NewsChannel 10
  • Bell Textron’s Amarillo Assembly Center is reporting that the Nacelle Improvement Program has reduced CV-22 maintenance hours by 75% & saved over 24,000 hours, boosting readiness for Air Force missions.   • The Barrio Business Expo will take place tomorrow at Wesley Community Center, 1615 S. Roberts St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees will network with community leaders and explore new business opportunities.  NewsChannel 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • A vibrant Earth Day celebration was held Saturday at Arts in the Sunset, where visitors enjoyed bluegrass music, wildlife encounters, and vendor booths benefitting the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.   • The Amarillo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host Fajita Festival this Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Hodgetown (715 S. Buchanan St.) with fajitas and music by Los Hermanos Mendoza and Conjunto Relincho. Tickets cost $40 for adults, $10 for children, and cook team spots are $350.  NewsChannel 10

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 330 Amarillo ISD teachers earned the Teacher Incentive Allotment bonus today, with awards from $3,000 to $29,000 over five years based on T-TESS evaluations (a formal measure) and student growth; district leaders said the program will soon expand to include additional subjects.  ABC 7 Amarillo

  • Potter County's median home listing price increased to $220,225 in March—a 4.9% jump from February—and typical listings measured 1,671 sqft at $139 per sqft, according to Realtor.com data.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • Amarillo Sod Poodles infielder Manuel Pena was named Texas League Player of the Week for April 13-19 after hitting .536 with six runs, three home runs and five doubles over six games at Hodgetown.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Junior handler Elizabeth Kolath and her border collie Nim are heading to Mannheim, Germany this July for the international Junior Agility Open Competition.
