Amarillo police reported a fatal hit-and-run struck a 73-year-old man on the 700 block of East Amarillo Boulevard around 1:02 a.m. May 3 — a dark-colored SUV-style vehicle traveled west, fled the scene, and officials are asking anyone with information to contact Amarillo CrimeStoppers.

Tim Reid received 60.9% of the votes for City Council Place 1 from all reported precincts, beating Patrick Ryan Miller who got 32%.

Dr. Valerie Kiper—a pioneer in nursing who expanded care and led key programs in Amarillo—died April 27 at her home at 67.

She advanced neonatal practices and mentored future nurses at Northwest Texas Healthcare System and TTUHSC, and a memorial service will be held May 6 at First Baptist Church.
