COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two Texas Panhandle firefighters were honored Sunday during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service in Emmitsburg — families received tokens that included a badge, a red rose, and a flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol. The service remembered Fritch Fire Chief Zeb Smith, who died in March 2024 after a heart attack while fighting a house fire, and Perryton Assistant Fire Chief Scott Glass, who was killed in October during a house fire response.  ABC 7 Amarillo

  • Inspired Taste is seeking 3 Amarillo home cooks to become Chief Pasta Officers this summer, where they will cook and evaluate pasta recipes for a two-week stint that pays $1500 and includes a food allowance—interested candidates must apply by May 16.  96.9 KISS FM
  • AutoZone construction is tearing up the parking lot at the Georgia Village water kiosk, making it hard for customers to fill up jugs of water and get ice. Developers say a fix will be announced soon as work continues.  NewsTalk 940 AM

CRIME NEWS

  • Amarillo police arrested David Allen Crowder, 21, after he murdered his girlfriend early Sunday morning near South Mirror Street and I-40—witnesses said officers heard gunshots and found shell casings as the 20-year-old victim was taken to a hospital where she died.  NewsChannel 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TxDOT Amarillo announced that this week crews will close parts of SE 10th Avenue from Ross Street to Arthur Street for paving operations and will restrict left lanes on I-40 frontage roads from Arthur Street to Eastern Street for high-mast lighting installation. Daily lane closures on SH 15 from the east side of Perryton to the west side of Booker are planned for asphalt rehabilitation and hot mix overlay operations—traffic lights and a pilot car will guide drivers until work is completed this summer.  ABC 7 Amarillo

HEALTH NEWS

  • Miracle Kid Chadlee was born at 26 weeks and spent over a year in hospitals before he began school in Amarillo while he still uses a ventilator and portable oxygen concentrator provided by the Children's Miracle Network+ his family got emergency help with hospital costs. His sister now aims to become a pediatric intensive care nurse after caring for him.  96.9 KISS FM
