  • Residents in Amarillo can help with the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive by placing bags of nonperishable food by their mailbox this Saturday, May 9 (a national effort led by the High Plains Food Bank, NALC and USPS to support families facing food insecurity in the Texas Panhandle).  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Wildcat Bluff Nature Center will host its annual 'Cheers!' fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. May 9 at 2301 N.   • Children’s Miracle Network partners with local businesses to host Miracle Week from May 2-9, inviting diners at Bubba’s 33 and other venues to support local children’s hospitals.   • Funerals were announced for four Amarillo residents killed in a plane crash in Texas Hill Country with services set Wednesday morning at Amarillo Fellowship Church and Friday at Hillside Christian Church West Campus (arrangements for one victim are pending).  ABC 7 Amarillo

  • Golden Rose Tea Room, a popular high tea spot in Amarillo, has closed temporarily as it prepares to move to 2493 I-40 (in the shopping center near the Donut Stop). The venue is set to reopen late May or early June and will offer exclusive membership perks.  NewsTalk 940 AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Amarillo hosted the 16th annual Fajita Festival on Friday, May 1, where local restaurant teams set up early to compete for the best fajitas while live Folklorico dances and music from Los Hermanos Mendoza and Conjunto Relincho entertained the crowd.  Amarillo Tribune
  • Brush with Art, a local art studio in Wolflin Square, is moving from 1948 Civic Circle to the larger former Vexus building at 2221 I-40 Frontage Rd to host bigger events & workshops. Owned by Amarillo natives Heidi & Casey, the business will soon announce its grand opening.  96.9 KISS FM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local kids learned the value of hard work on Lemonade Day near Coulter in Amarillo. The family-run stand operated from 9:30 a.m. on May 2 and taught them key business lessons through popular flavors like cherry lime.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • Today and tomorrow, Texan skywatchers can see the Eta Aquarids meteor shower as Earth passes through Halley’s Comet debris + up to 50 meteors may be visible between midnight and dawn.  Amarillo Globe-News
