- ➤ Texas Panhandle War Memorial Center at 4111 S. Georgia in Amarillo will host a nighttime ceremony on May 8 at 9:30 p.m. for the 80th anniversary of VE Day — DAR chapters and the local community will honor veterans by lighting red lanterns, reading names, and singing God Bless America. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TxDOT said Tuesday that the right lane of westbound I-40 from Helium Road to Hope Road and the left lane of northbound I-27 from Rockwell Road to Lair Road are closed due to flooding from heavy rain, so drivers should allow extra time. The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Canadian River until Friday morning and city officials are operating playa lake pumps while the Hollywood Road Wastewater Treatment Facility is temporarily closed to waste haulers. - ➤ On Monday, the Department of Justice filed a memorandum in Amarillo in support of the FDA’s motion to dismiss a mifepristone case—arguing the States did not meet venue requirements and failed to exhaust their claims. The filing calls for the case to be either dismissed or transferred to a district with proper jurisdiction. Amarillo Tribune
