- ➤ The Amarillo Zoo and Sanctuary is improving its facilities, including cleaning the spider monkey enclosure moat, as it prepares to reopen in a few weeks. Tax-deductible donations can be mailed to the zoo (located on Comanchero Trail) to support updates to animal habitats. 96.9 KISS FM
- ➤ City officials announced Thompson Park Pool will reopen on May 23 with a capacity of 625 visitors. The reopened pool offers amenities (zero-depth entry, volleyball, water slides, lazy river) and is the only outdoor pool open this summer after the Southeast and Southwest locations closed. - ➤ Sushi Kingdom, a new sushi restaurant, will open at Bell Plaza as renovations begin this May at 5807 SW 45th suite 340 and wrap up in November, with an opening set for December or early next year. NewsTalk 940 AM
- ➤ At its Amarillo facility, Pantex held a ribbon-cutting yesterday for its new High Explosives Science and Engineering facility, which cost $300 million and consolidates 80,000 sqft from 15 older buildings (some dating to WWII) to boost safety and reduce transport needs. Amarillo Tribune

- ➤ State Rep. Caroline Fairly hosted Texas Panhandle students at the State Capitol this week as part of the inaugural Panhandle Capitol Leadership Program — they toured the Capitol, visited the Governor’s Mansion, and received etiquette training before presenting their ideas on government. - ➤ West Texas A&M University completed its pilot Buff Residency program with six teaching residents at Canyon ISD to gain hands-on classroom experience. The initiative will expand next school year to additional districts including Amarillo, Pampa, Dumas + Lubbock ISDs to address teacher shortages. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ Amarillo City Council and Mayor Cole Stanley recognized 28 Junior Achievement BizTown student mayors yesterday at 4 p.m. in council chambers as they each received a certificate and took a ceremonial council role in the nonprofit program preparing young people for success. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Pantex held a ribbon cutting yesterday for its new High Explosives Science and Engineering facility that merges work from 15 older sites. The 72,000 sqft facility will support weapons maintenance and surveillance and house about 75 to 80 specialists (site official Carl Beard) in Amarillo. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ BSA Behavioral Health encourages individuals and families to seek mental health support this month during Mental Health Awareness Month, offering same-day appointments for children and adults in need of care.
