- ➤ Downtown Women’s Center opened its new shelter, Haven House Too, ahead of schedule when a mother brought her two children in need of urgent care. The shelter now houses four women and five children — and has a waiting list of seven women with children seeking support. Amarillo Tribune
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Amarillo police chased a stolen Jeep — the chase ended when the vehicle crashed near railroad tracks on Monday night and two juveniles were arrested, with the driver taken to the Youth Center of the High Plains. Amarillo Globe-News
- ➤ David Allen Crowder, 21, is accused of killing his girlfriend Ariana Nicole Estrada on May 4 after chasing her car on I-40 near Ross-Osage and firing multiple rounds from an AR style rifle—police later picked him up at his father’s house where they found the weapon hidden in tall grass. - ➤ The Texas House gave preliminary approval Monday to a bill to eliminate STAAR—the high-stakes test used by districts—while the Senate remains skeptical about the measure. ABC 7 Amarillo
- ➤ On May 9, 2025, Amarillo College held its spring commencement at the Amarillo Civic Center Coliseum—over 1,000 graduates received their diplomas as families showed their support.
