- ➤ Families gathered at the Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center on May 21 to lay 44 engraved bricks honoring fallen veterans in the growing Patio of Honor. The event—one of the largest in the 26 years of the program—provided small American flags and red roses to each family as a symbolic tribute to those who served. Amarillo Globe-News
- ➤ Kids Cafe, a local non-profit that feeds children, is limiting its services to 2,000 kids because of funding cuts from the (USDA) and rising food costs even as it serves about 1,400 kids during the school year. The organization has changed its menu to use more affordable recipes and continues feeding children at 14 local centers. ABC 7 Amarillo

- ➤ Cornelius Harper, already serving a murder sentence, killed his cellmate Silvino Nunez in April 2020 and represented himself at court, resulting in a life sentence with no chance for parole given by Potter County Judge Titiana Frausto on May 19 (the investigation was led by the Office of the Inspector General). - ➤ On Tuesday, police responded to a shooting on Business Park Drive near Western + Hillside when a man driving a landscaping vehicle was fired upon by a car using an automatic weapon; 34-year-old Lucas Barrera was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and no one was injured.
