- ➤ The Amarillo Police Department invites locals to join officers for free coffee and conversation this Thursday, May 29, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the McDonald’s on 2000 S. Western St — Amarillo Crime Stoppers and SWAT team members will also be on hand to provide free Kid ID cards. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ High Plains Food Bank will start its Kids Cafe Summer Food Service Program on June 2—offering breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks to children in Amarillo and Canyon while school is out. The program will serve about 1,400 kids a day and runs until Aug. 8. Amarillo Tribune

- ➤ State officials temporarily shut down eight West Texas massage parlors — including Family Reflexology in Amarillo — after investigators found evidence of human trafficking and prostitution. Amarillo Globe-News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials moved forward today to plan a new daytime shelter for the homeless that will complement the night shelter at Transformation Park. The city will pay $4 million over 10 years for lease space at Southwest 5th Avenue and Bowie Street while a nonprofit funds the remaining construction costs for the facility that will also house Community Development offices. - ➤ Early voting is now open for the Amarillo City Council Place 3 runoff between incumbent Tom Scherlen and challenger David Prescott after the May 3 election ended with less than 350 votes separating them—this runoff is one of the closest in recent years. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 27—30 and June 2—3, and Election Day is on June 7 when voters must present approved identification. Amarillo Globe-News
- ➤ Potter County commissioners voted to support an 8.3 million dollars funding request from the federal government to offset unexpected costs for restoring the historic St. Anthony’s Hospital into affordable senior housing. The project will offer more than 124 housing units for adults aged 55+ and is set to open in October. NewsChannel 10
