- ➤ Today, two Amarillo nonprofits, Snack Pak 4 Kids and Fill with Hope, are running a summer meal program to feed children who lost school meals + the program will continue until fall when school resumes. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ At Walmart on Georgia Street, Amarillo police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle and learned that Justin Lee Crouch shot himself before officers fired four shots—autopsy results confirmed his self-inflicted gunshot wound on June 7th. ABC 7 Amarillo
- ➤ Authorities arrested Jeremiah Macias on Fannin Street in Amarillo on May 21 after a Phoenix UPS store package addressed to a local resident was found to contain 19.5 pounds of meth worth about $700,000—Macias admitted sending the package after agents searched his phone. NewsChannel 10
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Over 50 Amarillo schools are installing a new evacuation system called Go To Green that uses sensors—overhead lighting to signal safe paths during emergencies. Amarillo ISD paid for the system with a dedicated bond, and first responders will use the lights to locate potential threats. NewsChannel 10
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Amarillo chose a recruiting firm to help find its next police chief after Chief Martin Birkenfeld retired, & Deputy City Manager Andrew Freeman said the firm was selected from 10 proposals with a deal expected in a few weeks. Community, police department, and city council input will shape the final candidate selection with a hire planned by the end of the year. ABC 7 Amarillo
- ➤ Randall County is planning almost $10 million in renovations to its Justice Center in Canyon, which includes building upgrades, improved parking + better roads and bridges. A meeting in August will consider selling certificates of obligation to fund the improvements while the county manages a current debt of $50 million + future interest payments. NewsChannel 10
