  • Amarillo Buc-ee’s donated a major gift to the Texas Panhandle First Responders Memorial project in downtown Amarillo—pushing funds raised above $800,000, organizers said. They need about $400,000 more before breaking ground later this year to build a monument honoring fallen first responders.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Buc-ee’s recently made a substantial gift to the Texas Panhandle First Responders Memorial in downtown Amarillo—raising total funds to over $800,000 and marking the donation as the project’s second largest. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Parents in Amarillo are calling for TXDOT to install a stoplight at the dangerous Helium Rd.—Arden Rd intersection near West Plains High after a teen was hit by an SUV on June 16 and is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, with officials noting that previous studies did not support the signal installation.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • A West Plains High School student was hit by a car Monday while crossing Loop 335 in the crosswalk and was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries—Canyon ISD said it is working with TxDOT to improve safety and thanked first responders.  NewsChannel 10

  • Authorities charged Potato Factory owner Randy Lee Nelson with invasive visual recording and evidence tampering after an employee discovered a hidden camera in the bathroom on June 3—Nelson has not been arrested yet.  ABC 7 Amarillo

  • Tickets are now on sale for the Amarillo Symphony’s 6th annual Symphony Under the Stars concert on Sept. 6 at Hodgetown (701 S. Buchanan St) where John Williams’ scores from Star Wars, E.T., and Harry Potter will fill the evening. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Amarillo City Council certified David Prescott as the winner of the Place 3 runoff election held on June 7 after a June 16 meeting that confirmed a 50-vote margin over his opponent — he will be sworn in at 1 p.m. on June 24. Public concerns over the process were addressed when city attorney guidance verified that the two-councilmember quorum met state law requirements.  Amarillo Globe-News
