  • The Inaugural Medals vs Badges Pitch’N Slide event will take place at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial on Friday, June 20 at 5:30 p.m.—each team must include a veteran or first responder and pay $35 for a chance to win cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100.   • A new union contract raised wages to $23.60 an hour for over 3,000 JBS workers at the Cactus plant, replacing the 401(k) with a company-funded pension retroactive to June 2024 and adding protections such as overtime pay, funeral leave, healthcare upgrades & union representation.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • Amarillo Police charged Randy Lee Nelson—owner of the Potato Factory—with tampering with evidence and invasive visual recording after an employee found a cellphone in the restaurant's bathroom.  NewsTalk 940 AM

  • Alphonso Vaughn, Amarillo NAACP leader, said Juneteenth is a day to remember Black history and to push back against efforts that erase it—he urged community members to support local events like workshops and panels that address housing issues and trust with law enforcement. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Amarillo Environmental Health Department recommends that residents dump stagnant water from items such as bird baths and pet bowls to help control mosquitoes and prevent West Nile and St. Louis Encephalitis. Technicians will treat hot spots with larva-killing granules and fog adults when needed, and residents may report standing water (using the City website) to aid mosquito control.  Amarillo Tribune

  • Stran Smith, a Childress native and retired tie-down roping champion, will be inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame on July 12 this summer—he overcame a stroke at 32 and later won the World Championship at 38, crediting his family for their support.   • On Wednesday, Dallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons led the Lions Den Football Camp at River Road High School where hundreds of kids cheered as coaches and volunteers helped run drills from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.—the camp, which began in Corpus Christi in March and will finish in Albuquerque on June 20, came together after a last-minute venue change.  Amarillo Tribune
