  • The Carver Golden Dragon Association held a Juneteenth brunch on June 18th at the Black Historical Cultural Center— honoring community leaders James Allen, Charles Hood, and Rose Taylor for their work in civic service. Executive director Melodie Graves announced plans to expand the United Citizens Forum into a community resource hub and urged residents to support new projects— calling for a united effort to build on this legacy.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • Long John Silver's is returning to Amarillo as construction on the remodeled restaurant near 45th and Bell moves fast—workers have transformed a flat-windowed building into a blue and gray design with plank paneling that recalls its classic look. CRIME NEWS

  • The State filed a petition for an en banc rehearing to challenge the March decision that reversed and vacated Brittany Holberg’s capital murder conviction—arguing that misapplied Brady rules require full review—while Holberg, 52, has been on death row for 27 years after killing A.B. Towery, Sr. in her Amarillo apartment during a robbery.  Amarillo Tribune
  • On June 15th, police ended a chase that began with a stolen car and led suspect Aaron Walling into homeowner Sandra McCartt’s house, where she almost fired her rifle in a guest room—officers arrested him for evading police, aggravated assault on a peace officer, driving while intoxicated, and criminal trespass of a home.  96.9 KISS FM

  • The Texas Panhandle saw job growth over the past year that kept unemployment low and boosted opportunities in Amarillo—business leaders are planning further expansions including Sage Oil Vac doubling its workforce.  NewsChannel 10

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas Tech University's School of Veterinary Medicine in Amarillo will host two vet camps this summer—one for kids aged 8 to 10 on July 29 and the other for teens aged 13 to 18 on July 30—with check-in at 8:30 a.m., camps running until 4 p.m., a fee of $95, and registration closing on July 16.  96.9 KISS FM
