  • Paint Rock Coffee Co. will open soon at the old Toot N Totum building at 5901 Bell St to serve coffee, baked treats, and a drive-thru for easy access. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas Gov. Abbott vetoed Senate Bill 3, saying it posed constitutional challenges and could harm the $8 billion hemp industry by conflicting with federal law. He has called a special session on July 21 to develop enforceable regulations—while industry leaders praised his move and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick criticized it.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Gov. Greg Abbott has called a special legislative session that will begin July 21 to address six vetoed bills, including Senate Bill 3 that would have banned hemp products containing THC—he vetoed 26 bills total. He said lawmakers may add more items to the agenda during the 30-day session at the Capitol—further topics could be considered as the session unfolds.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Texas Gov. Greg Abbott vetoed a bill Sunday that would have banned THC products, so stores continue selling vapes, gummies and similar items statewide. He urged lawmakers to regulate these products like alcohol while Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick criticized the decision and held a press conference Monday to address concerns.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • A sold-out crowd filled the Globe-News Center on June 22 while Sen. Bernie Sanders addressed the audience by phone amid security briefings following military action in Iran.   • Attorneys with the Texas Immigration Law Council met in Amarillo to explain changes in immigration laws and clear up false posts about ICE raids. Officials said that false information is causing local fear— they expect ICE operations may increase soon— and advised refugees and immigrants to know their rights.  Amarillo Tribune

  • After heavy rains boosted mosquito numbers, Amarillo’s Environmental Health Department expanded its control plan—using larvicide, fogging, and surveillance—to limit bites while tests in Lubbock showed West Nile Virus, and residents are advised to wear bug spray.  NewsTalk 940 AM
