  • Amarillo’s Pride on the Plains is set to return Saturday, June 28 from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Park as over 3,200 registered attendees join music, family activities, and vendor booths; organizers have increased security with fenced areas, bag checks, and extra private guards—steps taken in response to online threats and reduced corporate sponsorship.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • City officials reported that the Amarillo Zoo’s lion Solomon died of natural causes at age 20 earlier this month. He arrived in 2006 and his care inspired many visitors—his passing now affects other residents of the zoo.  NewsChannel 10

  • Amarillo police confirmed one person died and another was injured after a two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of 10th and Pierce on June 25th at about 6:42 a.m.—the area was closed for investigation—officials are continuing to review the scene.  ABC 7 Amarillo

CRIME NEWS

  • Amarillo police are looking for 12-year-old Georgia Carrillo who was last seen near Northwest 14th Ave and North Lamar Street on Tuesday + she is described as about 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 115 pounds with black hair and brown eyes + anyone with information should call the Amarillo Police Department.  NewsChannel 10
  • Amarillo police said that 22-year-old Braydon Mitchell Ellertson was fatally shot at Olsen Park early Wednesday around 12:08 a.m.—the shooting followed a physical fight with a caller who fired a shot, and officers are continuing their investigation with no arrests made so far.  NewsChannel 10

  • Region 16 Education Service Center announced that the Memphis Independent School District Board of Trustees is named the 2025 Outstanding School Board of the Year for Region 16. The board will represent the region at txEDCON25 TASA-TASB Convention in September + show its ongoing commitment to education.  NewsChannel 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Amarillo City Council approved a $1.28M upgrade in North Heights where nearly two miles of old steel water lines will be replaced with modern six-inch PVC pipes to improve water pressure and fire protection—work is expected to begin within three weeks and finish in about five to six months. The contract, awarded to Turkey Creek HDD, LLC, marks the first major update in decades following community calls for change.  Amarillo Globe-News
