- ➤ Utility workers from across West Texas gathered on June 27 at Xcel Energy’s Don Taylor Rodeo Grounds behind the Amarillo Technical Center for the 32nd annual Lone Star Lineman’s Rodeo—testing physical skill and teamwork in challenges like the Hurt-Man Rescue and an egg task aimed at simulating real work hazards. - ➤ Today, law enforcement arrested a suspect after an hours-long SWAT standoff near Oakdale Elementary following a drive-by shooting this morning that injured one person and led investigators to find the suspect’s car near South Spring Street—Amarillo Police, Texas DPS, and other agencies responded to the scene. - ➤ Amarillo police are seeking new leads in the 25-year-old cold case murder of 24-year-old Shamika Donise Scott, who was smothered in Room 27 at the Wagon Wheel Motel at 3602 E Amarillo Blvd on June 9, 2000 — a hot curling iron and burning candles were found in the room. ABC 7 Amarillo

- ➤ More than 400 people gathered on July 2 at the courthouse lawn as High Noon on the Square entered its final month with a reading of the Declaration of Independence and live Americana by Andy Chase and Friends. - ➤ Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Garrison Institute on Aging and Wovenly, Inc. launched the CMS GUIDE Model to improve home-based virtual dementia care for Medicare beneficiaries in Lubbock, Amarillo and nearby areas — aiming to ease caregiver burdens and reduce hospital visits. Enrollment began July 1 and patients are receiving in-person and telemedicine assessments along with in-home respite care — a move to help more families keep loved ones safely at home.
