  • Amarillo Area CASA needs 100 to 150 volunteers to support over 200 children in foster care across seven counties—its trained volunteers help advocate for kids and work to lower the number of children in care.  NewsChannel 10

  • The Amarillo SPCA is asking for donations of furniture, small appliances, clean clothing and household items to fund its September garage sale. Donated items may be dropped off at Stacy’s Uniforms at 4324 SW 45th on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting today, and the sale will be held on September 19—20 at 6515 Roxton Drive from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  NewsChannel 10
  • Amarillo offers an easy curbside pickup service that lets residents schedule removal of bulky items like furniture when placed at the curb (not in alleys) to keep neighborhoods clean.   • Today, Toot’n Totum launched its Change for the Better campaign at all locations to help Texas flood victims by allowing customers to round up purchases or donate any amount at checkout — the funds will support local aid organizations and the company will match the first $7,500 raised.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • On Monday, July 7, DPS—along with Homeland Security Investigations and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation—raided three massage parlors in Amarillo and arrested two locals, Zhi Zhi Luna and Zhen Li Parr, on charges tied to human trafficking and prostitution.  ABC 7 Amarillo

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Amarillo Municipal Court parking lot is under construction and will have no parking on the south side until January 5, 2026; visitors must use north side parking by entering through the Police Department entrance. Virtual court options and alternative payment methods, such as the night drop box and online payments, are available for those needing to file documents.  96.9 KISS FM
  • The Amarillo Fire Department sent Engine 41 and four firefighters to Central Texas to help with search, rescue, recovery, and cleanup after deadly floods that killed at least 88 people and left many missing. The team was deployed on July 6 and will work for up to two weeks as more rain is expected.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Amarillo city council is set to approve a deal with Public Sector Search and Consulting, Inc. today to conduct a national search for a new police chief after Chief Martin Birkenfeld suddenly retired. The firm will receive $42,500 (plus search costs) and Assistant Police Chief Jimmy Johnson is serving as interim.  ABC 7 Amarillo
