  • European Wax Center will open a new salon at 3240 S Soncy Rd, Suite 600—near Starbucks—with renovations starting in July and ending in October as the salon opens in November at a $250,000 investment.  96.9 KISS FM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Amarillo Little Theatre launched its 98th season today with the ALT Academy’s production of Something Rotten and will present shows—Frozen, Jersey Boys, Misery, Ragtime, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Cottage and Silent Sky—with student performances and volunteer roles available via season ticket packages. The season, which was planned following community input and board discussions, promises to offer a wide mix of Broadway hits and local debuts for all ages.  Amarillo Globe-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • An unauthorized discharge of nearly 1 million gallons of untreated wastewater was released from Lift Station 40 at 7100 Cliffside on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. and fully contained by 10:15 p.m.—tests are underway for contamination in a nearby ponded area of West Amarillo Creek as remediation work has been completed.  KGNC
  • On Wednesday, July 9, officials contained an unauthorized discharge of about one million gallons of untreated wastewater from Lift Station 40 at 7100 Cliffside after a break in the force main caused overflow from the manhole — tests for contamination are underway as remediation work is complete.  NewsChannel 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TxDOT said its installation of rectangular flashing beacons at the intersection of Arden Road and South Loop 335 near West Plains High School comes weeks after a near-fatal accident involving a student crossing the road, and drivers must stop for the flashing yellow lights. The beacons will be operating by mid-August—TxDOT is also studying if a traffic signal is needed at the intersection.  KGNC
  • After a year-long closure, the Crockett Street underpass reopened, restoring travel between the Bivins and Wolflin neighborhoods—drivers now must follow newly reinstated stop signs to navigate the changed traffic flow.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Construction for the Municipal Court parking lot started near the court's main entrance, and parking in that area is closed while access is maintained through the police. The project will remove three oak trees—replacing them with 10 new trees—and is expected to finish by January 2026.  NewsChannel 10
  • Councilman Les Simpson said confidential discussions—held in a closed-door meeting—about the Amarillo Zoo were leaked, and he stressed that no sale decision has been made. A city spokesperson said any proposal to sell the zoo must be discussed publicly at a future council meeting.  ABC 7 Amarillo
