Amarillo’s frozen dessert shops are taking part in a National Ice Cream Day contest where readers vote for the best treat among 10 local spots.

The poll, run by the Amarillo Globe-News, remains open until July 27 (11:59 p.m. CDT) for voters to cast their choices.

If your dog goes missing, the city offers a website where you can upload a photo and details to search for a match (the tool also lets you share reports on social media to help reunite you with your pet).

Paint Rock Coffee Co. will open a new drive-thru shop soon at the corner of Hillside and Bell in the old Toot N Totum building in Amarillo—owner Tommy Bonner said the shop will have in-house baked treats, hand-painted walls, and local input from coffee lover Kris after 2 1/2 years of planning. The shop is expected to open in the next 3-6 months.

Hooters closed its Amarillo restaurant earlier this week and employees learned the news by text message, leaving locals to wonder about the Hooters Horse from the Hoof Prints project.

Building owner Brayden Engler said he will preserve the horse — updating it for future tenants while possibly storing it to prevent theft.

Since 2020, Amarillo residents have reported 10 UFO sightings recorded by the National UFO Reporting Center—these events ranged from hovering disks to lights streaking across the sky.

The most recent sighting in March described a glowing light that moved slowly and showed an odd shape for only a few seconds—leaving observers to wonder about other worlds.
