ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, fire crews arrived at a burning single-story home on the 1300 block of Broadmoor Street and found one victim with clear signs of death while officials will release more details tomorrow.  ABC 7 Amarillo

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mariscos El Big Boy has changed its name to Mariscos El Victor because legal issues forced the change; the restaurant keeps the same menu and location at 2813 SW 6th. The new name honors a family tradition (4 generations) and marks a new chapter in its five years of service (despite past plans for a second location).  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Materialistic Junkies opened its storefront at 3318 S. Georgia St. where brothers Nick and Ryan Perez sell sneakers, trading cards, collectibles and vintage clothes—a move that grew from their weekend flea market sales. They will host an event on Friday, Aug. 9 at the Amarillo Civic Center’s North Exhibit Hall, with $5 admission and event bags for the first 150 guests.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • A new taqueria called El Maestro Taquero will open at 3121 SW 6th Ave, where Marshall's Tavern once stood on historic Route 66, adding a bold dining option for locals. Owners Ivan Carnero & Angel Arreola plan to upgrade the space and will announce a grand opening date soon.  NewsTalk 940 AM

  • On Saturday, Randall County Deputies arrested six individuals—Dusty Allen Wells, Sara Jean Ramos, Destany Michele Urias, Jessica Lee Altman, Jeffrey Charles Olivarez and Jimmy Douglas Jones—for charges including organized criminal activity, controlled substance offenses, terroristic threat and other related violations.  KGNC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Amarillo needs new host families for foreign exchange students ages 15—18 as the school year nears. Families must be at least 25, provide three meals daily, and pass a background check—those interested should reply to a Reddit post.  NewsTalk 940 AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas passed a new law that raises penalties for road rage shootings, making it a first-degree felony to shoot into or at an occupied vehicle. The law, SB3031—with inspiration from a fatal Houston incident involving a 17-year-old—is set to take effect on September 1 and could send offenders to 5 years to life in prison.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Today, Texas begins its first special session of the 89th Legislative Session, which may last up to 30 days and focus on flood warnings, emergency communications, and disaster recovery—Gov. Abbott’s agenda also reviews bills on THC rules, redistricting, and reopening the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum.  Amarillo Tribune
