  • Carly Bueno is searching the Texas Panhandle for her late Grammy's red antique couch and matching chair after reconnecting with a past seller through social media. The pieces, originally from The Big Texan and later owned in Borger or Dumas, might be reupholstered—and if found, Carly will buy them back to preserve cherished family memories.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Saint Francis Ministries is offering the PAL Program to help teens aging out of foster care build essential life skills and secure a new start in adulthood. The program serves youth aged 14—21 with classes in health, safety, financial management, and job readiness while providing a reliable support system during their transition.  NewsChannel 10
  • Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare has launched an AI tool—developed with Petco Love—that helps pet owners reunite with lost pets by matching clear photos with a database of found animals. Director Victoria Medley said the free service on the AAMW website and neighborhood apps will allow community members to upload pet photos and receive alerts when a match is found.  96.9 KISS FM
  • A private investor is transforming the old Helium Plant in Potter County into Helium Heights, a community hub with a coffee shop, shopping, a restaurant and a brewery. The co-owners have cleaned up the site (which spans 13 acres) and will soon paint the water tower (a seven-figure project) to draw traffic off I-40 and Route 66.  ABC 7 Amarillo

  • McAlister’s on I-40 has permanently closed today—its sign shows the location has been shuttered for almost a week. Students near Tascosa High School must now travel to the remaining McAlister’s at 8605 SW 34th—which still offers counter service.  96.9 KISS FM

CRIME NEWS

  • Amarillo police are investigating the death of 36-year-old Daniel Clay Beavers whose body was found at his home near S.W. 15th and Bowie on July 19th, with an autopsy showing blunt force trauma to the torso and early indications he may have been run over by a vehicle.  NewsChannel 10
  • Early Saturday morning, police found the body of 36-year-old Daniel Clay Beavers in his home on the 1500 block of South Bowie after receiving a call about a deceased male, and a preliminary autopsy indicated he died from blunt force trauma that may have resulted from being run over.  ABC 7 Amarillo

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today Amarillo's street crews use three DuraPatcher trucks to fix potholes in seconds by cleaning the hole, applying a tack coat & filling it with aggregate. The city spent $923,445 on the trucks in August 2024 & drivers can call 806-378-6815 to report a pothole.  96.9 KISS FM
