- ➤ A two-alarm fire heavily damaged a downtown Amarillo commercial building Monday evening on July 21 when flames burned through a large section of its roof—about 40 firefighters responded and investigators plan to determine the cause while no injuries were reported. Amarillo Globe-News

- ➤ Amarillo City Council approved a nearly $7.5 million fire station in the hospital district at Quail Creek to reduce response times in an underserved area. The new Fire Station 14 will cover 19,000 square feet and break ground in 30 days—construction is expected to take 13 to 14 months. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Governor Abbott signed Senate Bill 4 on June 16 to boost the homestead exemption for homeowners—raising it to $140,000 for most and $150,000 for seniors and those with disabilities while the state covers school funding gaps.
