ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Amarillo Fire Department crews responded to six fires this week including a suspected intentional blaze near SW 3rd and Austin on July 23 at 12:31 a.m., where a victim was treated for cyanide poisoning and is expected to recover, a mobile home fire on Sunday that caused one fatality and heavy damage, and Monday incidents in which two dogs were rescued and smoke inhalation victims received treatment—officials are investigating each event and report no connection between them.  Amarillo Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • Amarillo police responded to reports of shots fired near Northwest 2nd & North Adams on Sunday at 4:18 a.m. and found 18-year-old Damarian Grear dead in his vehicle from a gunshot wound with the homicide investigation ongoing.  KGNC
  • A shooting occurred near NW 2nd and Adams Sunday early morning when a witness reported hearing gunfire outside the after-hours club New York Bodega and Grill—police placed evidence markers along the street and have not released additional details.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • A $25,000 donation was presented on Friday to the 100 Club of TX Panhandle in memory of Chris Copeland, who helped detain a suspect in 2023 before he was killed in a shooting on July 8 and whose bravery was honored by APD and his family at the club office — making him a lifetime member.  ABC 7 Amarillo
