- ➤ Childhood friends Ivan Carnero and Angel Arreola are renovating a rundown building on Route 66 into Maestro Taquero Bar & Grill, a new upscale taquero restaurant expected to open in the fall with a visible kitchen and specialty blue tequila in its margaritas. - ➤ On Saturday, Potter County Sheriff’s deputies arrested several individuals—60-year-old Jerry Lee Butler at 12:52 for possession of a controlled substance penalty group-1 and an outstanding city charge; 59-year-old Ahmed Hamda Jilo at 2:00 p.m. for driving while intoxicated; 18-year-old Antrae Luster at 8:06 for assault causing bodily injury to a family member; 48-year-old Rosa Maria Marquez at 2:43 for possession and driving while intoxicated; 43-year-old Chasity Renee Upton at 12:20 for possession of a controlled substance penalty group-1 and an outstanding city charge; 23-year-old Nur Saidi Mohamed at 12:03 for criminal trespass; 33-year-old Justin David Reid at 10:00 a.m. for terroristic threat with additional charges; 58-year-old Judy Lynelle Riley at 6:45 p.m. for theft of property valued between $100 and $750; 22-year-old Nae-Quan D. Ross-Perez at 1:16 for assault causing bodily injury and resisting arrest; and 40-year-old Christian Aurelio Urrutia at 4:30 for possession of a controlled substance penalty group-1 and a JP charge—across Potter County. - ➤ Travelers on I-40 stop at the leaning water tower in Groom that appears as if it might fall, even though it is safe and built to attract visitors. The tower, set up by Ralph Britten to draw people to his truck stop, still honors Route 66 history — a nod to the past. 96.9 KISS FM
- ➤ Amarillo’s international film festival will begin on October 9 at Arts In The Sunset—showing films from seven countries, ten states, and local makers—in a VIP reception with screenings and a Q&A session. It will run for three days until October 11, with tickets on sale from August 11 and a full schedule released in early September. 96.9 KISS FM
