- ➤ Nominations for the Amarillo Globe-News 2025 Man and Woman of the Year awards open today via email with entries due by Sept. 8. Honorees for these awards will be revealed in the special Thanksgiving edition—Headliners will be named on Jan. 1 while Citizens on the Move recipients and in-person celebrations follow. - ➤ A new Ace Hardware store opened at the Summit Shopping Center at 7400 SW 34th Ave with new owners offering hardware supplies & fun items like lawn tools, paint, and cool sodas. The store will host its grand opening celebration from September 5 to September 7 with events and giveaways planned. 96.9 KISS FM

- ➤ Tomorrow, the Amarillo Museum of Art will host a free event for families from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. that offers indoor and outdoor activities—live music by a local artist, hands-on art projects inspired by its summer exhibition Home, Love and Loss, and a gallery hunt with prizes. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Shark Beach in Amarillo will host its first Sandcastle Days event from Sept. 18th to Sept. 21st — the venue will use 900 tons of locally sourced sand, professional sand sculptors, food trucks, and interactive educational field trips for fourth-grade students at 1505 E Farm-to-Market Road 1151. - ➤ On Thursday, Amarillo City Council voted 5—0 to appoint Brian Bruckner to the AEDC board seat vacated by Alex Fairly, who resigned on July 15. The board will soon select a new chairman. ABC 7 Amarillo
- ➤ Texas Panhandle libraries, including Amarillo Public Library, will receive over $4 million in LIFI grants from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission to boost broadband and facility upgrades. The grants will begin Sept. 1 and run through Dec. 31, 2026—ensuring better access to digital resources. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Rep. Caroline Fairly's office is accepting applications for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program for the 2025-2026 academic year. The program offers up to $30,000 per year for four academic years — applicants must meet at least two of four criteria and apply by Sept. 1. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ Amigos grocery stores in Amarillo, Hereford, Lubbock and Plainview will host a health fair tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that offers free screenings for glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol — the Amarillo location at 3300 I-40 East will feature the Amarillo Sod Poodles mascot RUCKUS from noon until 1.
