COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Amarillo Habitat for Humanity will hand over the keys of its 122nd home to the Idris family on Friday for a five-bedroom, two-bath house on North Monroe. The nonprofit said the family earned their home by completing over 500 sweat equity hours and attending more than 30 financial literacy classes (fulfilling program requirements).  NewsChannel 10

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Amarillo police responded to a crash near Bell and Puckett at 11 a.m. on Wednesday when a blue car turning west was struck by a white SUV and a black SUV waiting at a stop sign was hit — all three drivers were transported to the hospital with one sustaining serious injuries, and officers urged drivers to avoid the area.  NewsChannel 10

  • Burlington will open its new store at 2510 S. Soncy tomorrow — across from Kohl's and near Home Depot — with the first 100 customers on Friday and Saturday receiving a $10 bonus card. This second Amarillo location adds to the retailer’s existing store at 2201 S. Western.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Fermi America announced Aug. 12 that it hired veteran nuclear executives Mesut and Sezin Uzman to lead nuclear development for its $13 billion Amarillo energy-AI campus—expected to produce up to 11 gigawatts of power from nuclear, gas, solar, battery storage and grid sources—while Texas incentives under House Bill 14 help cover costs.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • Amarillo Little Theatre opens its immersive production of 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest' today at ALT Adventure Space using a two sided stage to offer a close view of a tense mental ward struggle. The play runs from today to August 24th and stars West Texas A&M professor Joanna Kimbell as Nurse Ratched (a performance that adds a modern twist to Ken Kesey’s classic novel).  Amarillo Globe-News

  • Canyon ISD students returned to classrooms on August 13 with high-fives, cheers and safety reminders as community members welcomed them warmly—teachers and local officials celebrated a festive start.
