- ➤ On Monday night nearly three inches of rain forced multiple businesses on Paramount Boulevard to close early—local owners said it cost workers valuable shifts. Business owners are calling on the city to act fast on flood repairs as residents voice their concerns on social media. ABC 7 Amarillo
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center treated more than 100 injured animals after Monday’s severe storm brought golf ball sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts. Volunteers are caring for squirrels, raptors, and doves—working to heal them before releasing many back to the wild while some did not survive. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ Today, Amarillo ISD students start classes and police remind drivers to stop for school buses when their lights flash — a rule that can incur fines for violations. Cpl. - ➤ After heavy rainfall closed I-40 at Washington Avenue on Monday, TxDOT and the City of Amarillo are planning a series of drainage projects—$30 million already spent with an additional $42 million in the pipeline—to ease recurring roadway flooding, and officials advised drivers to take alternative routes during heavy storms. - ➤ Texas Department of Transportation changed traffic patterns on I-27 yesterday by shifting southbound traffic to a widened shoulder from FM 2219 to south Amarillo, with some ramps closed until November. Later, northbound lanes will switch from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Thursday, August 21 until Saturday, August 23 — causing further delays for commuters. NewsTalk 940 AM
