ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Sunday morning, crews from several fire departments responded to a storage unit fire near S Washington Street and W Sundown Lane; no people were hurt — one dog and six puppies died as investigators looked into a faulty air conditioning unit as the likely cause.  NewsChannel 10
  • At around 12:11 a.m. on Sunday, Amarillo Fire Department crews rushed to N McMasters Street and NW 13th Avenue after reports of an RV trailer fire—firefighters quickly controlled the blaze with no injuries reported—and the Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause with a full report expected today.  NewsChannel 10

  • Old Logan’s in Amarillo, vacant for over a year, will be converted into a locally owned casual steakhouse with a broad menu selection once renovations finish in the next few months—an investor from Lubbock secured the lease.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Best Thai, a well-loved restaurant in Canyon that has served the community for over ten years, announced that its landlord will not renew its lease ending in August & the property is set to be sold and possibly torn down.   • Amarillo youth baseball shows a blend of intense competition and deep community bonds as parents cheer their teams while forming lasting friendships—certainly a unique mix in local sports.   • The Amarillo Little Theatre unveiled its 98th season today with a Friends-inspired reveal — including One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest on August 24 and Frozen the Musical from September 4 to 21 — and additional performances scheduled into next year. Founded in 1927, the ALT has brought live theater to the community for nearly a century.  96.9 KISS FM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Canyon launched an interactive map that lets residents mark spots needing safety upgrades such as traffic lights, crosswalks, or bike lanes as part of the national Safe Streets and Roads for All effort. Assistant City Manager Jon Behrens said the project received a $110,000 grant and the map will remain online until October 4—expecting many suggestions near the courthouse square.  ABC 7 Amarillo
