- ➤ The Boots vs. Badges softball game benefitting two Amarillo organizations was held tonight at Hodgetown—firefighters and law enforcement played a 10-inning match before a crowd of about 4,000. The badges won 13-10 and proceeds will help Coffee Memorial Blood Center and the 100 Club support local first responders. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ The new Ace Hardware store opened today at Summit Shopping Center and offers tools, garden gear and fun sodas—its new owner focuses on great service. The store will host a grand opening celebration from September 5 to 7 with a ribbon-cutting and giveaways. NewsTalk 940 AM
- ➤ A JCPenney store at Westgate Mall will remain open after a recent sale rescued 119 locations including 21 in Texas — the deal follows years of financial struggles for the chain. NewsTalk 940 AM
- ➤ Claire’s filed for bankruptcy yesterday and plans to close 18 stores nationwide to cut costs. Amarillo’s Westgate Mall location is safe—only the Texas stores in Highland Village and at Abilene are set to close. NewsTalk 940 AM
- ➤ Starz Gymnastics, a long-standing facility that taught many Amarillo youth for 35 years, closed on July 31, 2024 and is now for sale—buyers can purchase the full business or select equipment bundles to launch a gymnastics or fitness venture. - ➤ Multiple agencies responded to the Indian Trail Apartments after witnesses reported gunshots and one man was taken to a hospital—officials continue to investigate the incident. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Aaron Lee Taylor, 33, was sentenced last month to five years in prison for intentionally setting two vehicles on fire in west Amarillo—one near West I-40 and the other by Avis Car Rental—with an additional eight-month drug possession sentence served concurrently. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ Amarillo Little Theatre kicks off its 98th season today with a Friends-inspired announcement and a sold-out showing of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest—highlighting its rich history and local charm. The season features upcoming productions such as Frozen the Musical in September, Misery in October, Ragtime in November, The Cottage in January, Jersey Boys in February—March, Silent Sky in April, and School of Rock The Musical in late April—May with veteran volunteer Jason Crespin helping bring the magic.
