ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An abandoned two-story house at NW 18th + Travis caught fire around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday and affected drop-off at Carver Elementary as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.  ABC 7 Amarillo

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Prissy’s Barbecue returns to Amarillo as owner Anthony Sanders moves the restaurant from Tulia to a new location on E Amarillo Blvd—2509 E Amarillo Blvd—with a soft opening today and doors opening at 11 a.m. tomorrow. The restaurant will operate Wednesday through Saturday until sold out.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Long John Silver's reopened in Amarillo on August 1 after a six-year absence and set records with mile-long lines and wait times reaching four hours—customers flocked in record numbers during the opening week. Rumors of a second location have surfaced as strong demand continues—no official word on expansion has been given.  NewsTalk 940 AM

  • Amarillo police are asking the community for help in finding Brandy Gay Noble, who has been missing since 2002 and would have turned 39 on August 26—anyone with information is urged to contact the APD Cold Case Unit or Crime Stoppers.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Amarillo police ask for help to find Bella Gonzales, an 11-year-old girl last seen at 3:45 p.m. near North Florida and Northwest 3rd Avenue — she was walking east on SW 3rd near Austin and wore a black t-shirt with a bulldog logo, black leggings, and white and gold shoes.  NewsChannel 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Texas Air and Space Museum in Amarillo will expand its 22-acre facility to house a growing collection that includes 11 displayed aircraft, 30 stored artifacts and a rare Beech Starship. The first-phase project is expected to cost about $5.2 million — museum officials are asking for additional funding and help with transporting the aircraft from Arizona.  ABC 7 Amarillo

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Highland Park ISD cancelled classes Tuesday due to a lack of water supply at the school—officials said they would update details later that day.  NewsChannel 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Amarillo provided an update on plans to upgrade wastewater treatment plants after repeated malfunctions. Staff proposed rehabbing parts of the Hollywood plant—while analyzing the River Road facility—with a revised cost under $1.5 billion and a five- to six-year timeline.  NewsChannel 10
  • Amarillo held a meeting on August 25 where fewer than 10 residents shared their ideas for the new police chief—emphasizing the need for a compassionate leader who listens. Deputy City Manager Andrew Freeman said the city will use the feedback to guide the recruitment process and continues to collect more comments through an online survey open until August 29—helping shape the department's future.  Amarillo Globe-News
