- ➤ The Don Harrington Discovery Center will offer $1 admission for its Discover for a Dollar event on Friday, Aug.29 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.—featuring science demonstrations, a space theater show and fresh popcorn. Wildcat Bluff Nature Center will offer $1 admission on Aug.30 from sunrise to sunset where visitors are asked to place their admission in the drop box by the Visitor Center entrance. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Coast X Coast is hosting its annual Ride for the Fallen event at 10999 Looby Lane in Amarillo tonight at 6 p.m. It honors five fallen U.S. Special Operations Forces as riders are escorted from Dalhart and the event includes food, refreshments, a concert, and an aerial flyover. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ Toot'n Totum is celebrating the grand opening of its newest store, Store No. 27 at 734 N. Taylor St. in Amarillo today with a ribbon cutting at 11:15 a.m. that will feature a digital scratch-off game offering 75¢ off per gallon fuel for a maximum of 25 gallons, free food from Mitch’s Texas Style BBQ, vendor giveaways, and surprise items as the company marks 75 years of service — a milestone in its long history. - ➤ A 37-year-old Amarillo man with a previous charge for organized retail theft was arrested today on a warrant from 181st District Court and now faces enhanced state jail felony charges for retail theft of items valued between $750 and $2,500 — the offense date is August 15. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ The Amarillo College Board of Regents approved the Badger Bound Scholarship Program on Tuesday to cover 45 credit hours for high school students earning 15 dual credit hours at AC. The program, set to launch by Fall, will expand access across the Panhandle — reaching students in several counties — and create a clear pathway to college readiness. Amarillo Tribune

- ➤ Viewers tipped Amarillo officials about broken sprinklers running overnight near downtown Amarillo Civic Center Complex and wasting water on the pavement. - ➤ The City of Amarillo announced that on Labor Day Monday, City Hall, Municipal Court and public libraries will be closed while defendants can pay online and transit will not operate. Residential and commercial waste collection will be delayed to Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, and the landfill and brush sites will remain closed — Ross Rogers and Comanche Trail golf courses will have normal hours. - ➤ The Texas Department of Public Safety will launch Operation Crash Awareness Reduction Effort along U.S. 281 near the Military Highway during Labor Day weekend—aiming to curb speeding, DWI offenses and other violations to reduce crashes and save lives. - ➤ Amarillo will start a $4.5 million upgrade at John Stiff Memorial Park the week of Sept 8—new lights will boost safety, a road connector will improve traffic flow, and extra parking lots will ease congestion during events; the park will remain open while construction vehicles work on Bell Street so visitors should drive carefully. - ➤ On Tuesday, Aug. 26, the Amarillo City Council approved a maximum property tax rate of $0.43070 per $100 of home value to support the 2025–26 budget while also approving raises for police, firefighters, and city workers and debating fee increases for solid waste and utility services. The council received a wastewater update showing the system exceeded a 75% capacity threshold and will start a design process that may take five to six years and cost up to $1.5 billion — a move meant to keep the system efficient for a growing city.
