COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Texas Panhandle War Memorial will host War of the Wagons II on Friday, September 5, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in collaboration with the VA and Easy Thoughts Counseling—a free family event that spotlights veterans, raises mental health awareness, and crowns a Warrior of the year.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Cultivating the Culture will host the Kicks and Class Sneaker Ball fundraiser on Sept. 6 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Amarillo Area Foundation — the event will feature NFL veteran Ziggy Hood and Palo Duro High School coach Eric Mims, Sr. and offer film presentations, previews, a catered dinner, and a $25 ticket to raise funds for local documentaries.  NewsChannel 10

  • Starz Gymnastics, a community staple that taught kids gymnastics for over 35 years until its closure on July 31, 2024, is now for sale as an entire business or in equipment bundles—offering new owners a chance to revive a well-known local venue.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • WT Enterprise Center is hosting a free four-part AI workshop series for entrepreneurs and startups in September. Each Tuesday session runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the center in Amarillo and will include live demonstrations and audience Q&A.  NewsChannel 10

CRIME NEWS

  • Canyon police said a 7-year-old child was fatally shot on Labor Day at the Palo Duro Trailer Park — 5707 4th Ave., with officers dispatched at 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 1 and the case remaining under investigation.  Amarillo Globe-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas Senate Bill 835 known as Trey’s Law goes into effect today and voids nondisclosure agreements in sexual abuse cases. It was introduced by families and survivors from the Kanakuk summer camp abuse case — including the Alarcon family — and is retroactive to September 1.  NewsChannel 10
  • Potter County Commissioner Blair Schaffer will host a Town Hall Meeting on September 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown Amarillo Public Library—413 Southeast 4th Avenue—to address community concerns, a county budget update, and a proposed tax rate set for a Commissioners Court vote on September 8.  KGNC
