COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Amarillo restaurants are teaming up in September to host a series of Dine & Donate events that will donate a portion of proceeds to support the Maverick Boys & Girls Club. The events — from an all-day offer at Red Robin on Sept. 8 to Applebee’s pancake breakfast on Sept. 27 — encourage diners to mention the club to help build better futures for local youth.  NewsChannel 10

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A study showing that 53% of small businesses use artificial intelligence has led the WT Enterprise Center to launch a free four-part workshop series for Amarillo entrepreneurs starting Tuesday, Sept. 9 until Sept. 30 from 6 to 7 p.m. The sessions, led by Parker Settle and Orry Skelton of Synapse AI at 2300 N Western St.—they will teach business owners how to use AI to start and grow a business.  Amarillo Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • The man accused of shooting a security guard and kidnapping his wife in north Amarillo was arrested on August 14 near Redwood and Pecan and indicted by a federal grand jury for illegal entry—he now faces state charges for aggravated assault and kidnapping while awaiting federal prosecution that will likely lead to deportation.  NewsChannel 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Black Historical Cultural Center is fundraising tomorrow from 12 P.M. to 6 P.M. at its facility to raise $6,000 for repairs on the historic nursing quarters that once served as part of Amarillo’s first hospital for Black patients—offering $15 soul food plates to support the effort.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Owners at Hoot’s Pub confirmed the live music venue will close with its final show on September 27—fans are encouraged to attend one last event before the venue shuts down, marking the end of an era in local music.  NewsTalk 940 AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Amarillo College announced today a new Badger Bound Scholarship program that will let high school students earn up to 45 free college credits by completing 15 dual credit hours and finishing within three years — beginning fall 2026, eligible students from eight counties will have an affordable pathway to college success.  NewsChannel 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials are building a low-maintenance pump station at Playa Lake 7 to remove rainwater faster—this fix will ease flooding in the Greenways neighborhood at Hillside and Soncy. The design will be finished by Halff Associates in four to five months and improvements at Lawrence Lake will follow.  NewsChannel 10

  • The Big Texas Rally for Recovery Panhandle Edition will take place tomorrow at Southwest Church of Christ in Amarillo as part of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Awareness Month — the free event will provide food, live music, and resources for those facing addiction.
