COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local general store in Four Way reopened after a 10-year vacancy and has been run for a year by rancher Renetta Kennedy — the renovated building now offers food, drinks, snacks, sandwiches and a boutique. The store is located at 9698 Highway 287 and serves ranch families and oil field workers.  NewsChannel 10

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three firefighters were rescued on Saturday at about 9:27 p.m. after becoming disoriented while fighting a blaze at a vacant convenience store at 4014 South Washington Street — crews switched to a defensive plan amid heavy smoke and extreme heat, and no injuries were reported.  ABC 7 Amarillo

BUSINESS NEWS

  • An Adam & Eve store will soon open in the former Payless building near Tascosa High School in Amarillo after a delivery vehicle with the store’s branding was spotted at 1920 S Western — the new shop will require ID checks to keep products for adults only.  96.9 KISS FM

CRIME NEWS

  • A man identified as Jermichael Dandre Gills was arrested at an Amarillo bus station on August 31 after a canine alert led police to a black suitcase containing suspected meth valued at $1.5 million and cocaine worth $70,000 — he admitted to knowing the drugs were inside and said he was transporting them from Arizona to Indiana.  NewsChannel 10
  • Amarillo police said 23 year old Bol Deng is accused of capital murder after he shot three people in the 1900 block of NW 18th Ave on October 29, killing Lawrence Hart during a robbery—two other victims were seriously injured and were hospitalized.  ABC 7 Amarillo

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new Texas law gave free lunch to K-12 students in Potter & Randall counties starting Sept. 1. The law, backed by a $19.8 million budget, now supports over 101,000 students statewide, including 1,506 in Potter County and 320 in Randall County.  NewsChannel 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Potter County Law Enforcement Agency has asked county commissioners for more funds during the 2026 budget discussions so that deputies, who earn 10—23 percent less than their counterparts, can be retained. Jonathan Gates said that 15 deputies have left this year and the reallocated funds from vacant positions may help keep enough deputies to answer calls.  ABC 7 Amarillo
