  • On Friday, September 19, 2025, pirates will gather at Long John Silver’s in Amarillo for Talk Like a Pirate Day to get free fish or chicken if they talk like a pirate — a free 2-piece basket is offered to those who dress the part.  96.9 KISS FM
  • High Plains Food Bank and Dutch Bros will join for a one-day Buck for Kids fundraiser on September 19—Dutch Bros will donate $1 from every drink sold to support the Kids Cafe program that provides free nutritious meals to children in need.  NewsChannel 10
  • Amarillo library cards give access to ebooks, comics, and local attractions such as the zoo and Don Harrington Discovery Center—residents can sign up for free during National Library Card Sign-Up Month.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Tickets are on sale for a Pretty in Pink Tea Party—Luncheon that will honor Leticia Goodrich, the retired founder of Panhandle Breast Health who secured the first grant for free mammograms.   • Small Sliders is a new burger spot coming soon to Amarillo that will serve cheeseburger sliders on toasted butter buns with pickle and a signature Smauce. The restaurant will use Smorange shipping containers—giving it a unique slide-thru service—while offering combos with waffle fries and milkshakes.  96.9 KISS FM
  • After The Potato Factory closed, locals in Amarillo can now visit Potato My Way—a well-liked food truck—and Cream Over Waffle, which has opened a new location on Soncy to serve a variety of potato dishes.  NewsTalk 940 AM

  • Lauren Fritzler, the Tri-State Fair and Rodeo marketing manager, appeared on KGNC’s NewsDay Amarillo Wednesday morning—she discussed the fair's remaining events that will run through Saturday.  KGNC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Sept. 16, around 25 students attended a veterinarian training course at the Potter County Extension Office at the fairgrounds where David Sessum from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension led them in tests and hands-on skills, communication, and math to prepare for Tri-State Fair contests—helping them plan future careers in veterinary medicine.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Amarillo's Goodwill Career Center partnered with Google to offer free AI training that teaches basic and ethical skills—over 120 individuals completed the self-paced program since February and training will run until next February.  NewsChannel 10
  • Palo Duro High School in Amarillo is asking donors to drop off gently used or new clothing and hygiene products to help students in need for the school year. Donors can bring items such as socks, underwear, and personal care products to the school—supporting students with limited resources.  NewsTalk 940 AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Abbott signed three bills on August 26th to block foreign groups from buying Texas land and to protect citizens from harassment—these laws also ban state agreements with countries like China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia.  96.9 KISS FM

SPORTS NEWS

  • More than 100 runners on 25 teams will carry the U.S. flag along the CCC Trail in Palo Duro Canyon Saturday, Sept. 20, starting at 10 a.m. at the Texas Amphitheater parking lot to honor veterans—this annual run supports Marine heritage and benefits BOOM Adventures.  Amarillo Globe-News
