  • Penni Bentley from the Chamber of Commerce said the Chamber Bar-B-Que will take place on October 4 at the Tri‑State Fair Grounds — she discussed the event during her KGNC’s NewsDay Amarillo appearance with Tim Butler.  KGNC
  • Amarillo’s Buddy Walk returns at Sam Houston Park on Sept. 27 with games, food, and prizes — an event that celebrates Down syndrome awareness while inviting families to join the fun. Registration begins at 9 a.m. before the walk starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m.  96.9 KISS FM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hacienda Menche moved from its old Fillmore location to a larger space on Polk Street in downtown Amarillo in November 2024—serving authentic Mexican food with live music and themed nights. The restaurant, owned by a native of Chihuahua, Mexico, now offers specials like Taco Tuesdays to local diners.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Western Bank held a groundbreaking Monday morning near the corner of Soncy+Patriot Drive to mark plans for a 12000 square foot branch that will offer community-based financial services and start with 15 employees; construction will begin this fall and take about a year.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Delvin's BBQ will mark 10 years in Amarillo on October 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—locals can enjoy $10 plates at its original location, though the deal does not cover larger meat platters.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Big Tex Burritos in Canyon—located on 1410 US Highway 60 next to Tex Randall—will open by mid-October and is hiring staff for its build-your-own menu of burritos, nachos, bowls, salads, and baked potatoes. The restaurant will operate daily from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., offering a fresh dining option to local residents.  96.9 KISS FM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Amarillo’s Cottonwood Faire will be held at Thompson Park on October 11 and 12 from 10 AM—6 PM and will offer interactive storylines, faction battles, and Renaissance festivities for all ages. Visitors will choose a faction and take on quests—such as contests and knightly battles—that mix history with fantasy in a unique festival experience.  NewsTalk 940 AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nominations are open for a West Texas A&M University contest to honor top educators from the Texas Panhandle. Submissions will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. Oct. 20 and winners will be celebrated at the Nov. 1 game at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium on WT’s Canyon campus—families receive free admission.  NewsChannel 10
  • The Don Harrington Discovery Center will begin Discovery Fridays on Sept. 26 with half-day and full-day camps from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for children ages four to 11 while using a TEKS-aligned STEAM curriculum and offering extra care before and after camp.   • Amarillo's City Council approved a $557M budget that will raise property taxes by 11% to boost funding for over $30M in road projects — the plan also adds one police officer and one firefighter while increasing pay and securing funds for parks and a Women’s Clinic.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Amarillo's Panhandle Auto Burglary and Theft Unit is hosting a catalytic converter and trailer stamping event on September 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 13651 I-40 West Frontage Rd. behind the JP#3 office—this free service helps mark equipment for easier recovery if stolen.  NewsChannel 10
  • Ceta Canyon in Randall County must invest nearly $500,000 in upgrades—installing weather stations, new radios, and hiring extra staff—to meet the new Texas camp safety laws signed by Gov. HEALTH NEWS

  • Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in the Panhandle—one in eight men are expected to be diagnosed—and early screening is crucial, according to Ryan Parnell from the Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation. A free screening event will be held Oct 16 at Pondaseta Brewing for men ages 45—75 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with participants entered in a raffle for Texas Tech football tickets.  NewsChannel 10
  • Registration for the Our Colors Run Together 5K organized by the Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation ends Wednesday at midnight and packet pickup is on Sept. 26 from 2 p.m. — 6 p.m. at 1732 Hagy Blvd. The race will take place on Sept. 27 at the Amarillo College — Amarillo Museum of Art parking lot with the competitive 5K starting at 9 a.m. and the noncompetitive event beginning at 10 a.m. with proceeds benefiting local cancer survivors.  NewsChannel 10
